Thousands March In NYC For Equal Marriage

At today’s rally for marriage equality, cast members from Broadway’s Hair kicked things off with a joyful renditions of “Aquarius” and “Let the Sun Shine In,” and led the assembled protesters in a Sixties-style protest chant: “What do we want? Equal rights! When we do we want it? Right now!”
Among those at the rally today were Governor David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, State Senator Tom Duane and State Assemblyman Danny O’Donnell,Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, David Hyde Pierce.
And while no one wants to take anything for granted, gay marriage in New York State—which was approved by the Assembly last week, but still needs to pass the Senate for Gov. Paterson to sign it into law—seemed within tantalizing reach.
